Household managers often oversee finances, ensuring invoices are paid on time, correspondence for principals, planning events/parties, and coordinating other household employees or third-party vendors including gardeners, chefs, drivers, plumbers, electricians, contractors, etc.. Household managers also often oversee household shopping, errands, deliveries, and manage the calendars of their principals. Depending on the size of the home or estate, household managers may also be asked to prepare and plan and prepare meals, assist with tidying the home, pet care, family laundry, and other duties.
A nanny/family assistant has the same duties and responsibilities that a nanny does, but carries additional tasks related to the household that are not child-focused. A family assistant’s duties vary greatly from family to family, but often include meal planning and prep for the entire family, light cleaning, grocery shopping or ordering, running errands, organizing projects in the home, pet care, family laundry, helping to coordinate and set up for parties/events, scheduling and organizing third-party household support such as housekeepers, gardeners, electricians, pool services, and other vendors, and helping plan and book family travel.

Every search is different and the timing is dependent on the type of role, the location of your home, availability of candidates, and of course on the clarity you have when starting your search. The better we can get to know your needs early on, the easier it will be to provide you with great options!
Every candidate goes through a thorough vetting process including two interviews, background checks and a verification of a minimum of three professional references. Our application is incredibly detailed. We believe private service is a career track and do our best to only accept candidates that are looking for long-term placements.
We are passionate about the longevity of our placements. Our team is happy to maintain an ongoing relationship with both clients and staff even after the placement is solidified. It is our joy to provide ongoing support and it is rare that any issues cannot be resolved with proper guidance and communication. With that said, we offer a discount on an additional placement should the initial one not work out within the first year of the contract.
Our fees vary based on the position for which you are hiring. All placement processes begin with a search fee which will range from $300-500. Our final placement fees are based on a percentage of the guaranteed pay for the household employee.
We consider private service to be a career that demands all the same benefits of other industries. We suggest that clients provide benefits packages with industry standard items which may include: paid vacation and sick time, holiday pay, medical, dental, and/or vision insurance coverage or healthcare stipend, gas/mileage stipend, meals while working, work cell phone coverage, 401K, and relocation assistance. We are glad to provide support in crafting an appealing compensation package for employees.
The candidates we work with are professionals and need to be paid as such. It has become much less common for household employees to be paid illegally as the IRS is taking more note of these infringements. Hiring a household employee illegally can result in serious tax and legal consequences for families and also withholds vital protections for staff, including unemployment and workers compensation benefits. Additionally, staff who are paid illegally are unable to verify their professional income and often struggle when applying for rental housing, mortgages, student loans, and auto loans. We are glad to help you understand the industry standards related to legal pay, payroll, guaranteed hours and benefits.
